Bio & Press
It’s time to take your bread-crumb and ziplocks out of the pantry: Random Recipe is offering you Shake It! Bake It!, a crunchy EP sprinkled with bling, made up of eight remixed and rearranged songs that first saw the light of day a year ago on the band's debut album, Fold It! Mold It!. Shake It! Bake It! is available in digital format on Random Recipe's official website. You will also automatically get a free download of the remixed and revisited EP by purchasing a copy of Fold It! Mold It! in stores.
This time around, though still faithful to their genre polygamy, Random Recipe flirts with electro, hip-hop, kitsch, indie and pop. More upbeat than its predecessor, Shake It! Bake It! was largely inspired by the energy associated with the group's live performances, which garnered high appraisal this past year. It is in fact after a magical concert at the MAC's Nocturnes, where the band had revisited their own catalog and given it a second life, that Random Recipe concocted this EP. In front of an enthusiastic and hungry crowd, the eclectic band managed to satisfy their febrile craving to dive back into the studio. Joining the food-fight are artists with whom Random Recipe had dreamed about collaborating: JUNO award winner DJ Brace, MHMHMH and Capitaine Soldat all sign a remix. May this piece of candy appease your appetite until the next album's release!
ABOUT RANDOM RECIPE
Random Recipe's name truly and simply suits their sound. With a fine mixture of human warmth, originality and musical inspiration from all over the world, Random Recipe was able to slip away from the attribution of a specific music tag by opening their horizon and offering a playful journey to the world. By doing so, the Montreal-based band easily flirts with folk, hip-hop, bossa-nova, electro, tri-hop, lullaby, jazz, kazoo and much more while never losing their way. The result comes in perfectly crafted songs bursting of sweet reminders of their Italian, Quebecois, Louisiana and Chinese roots and inspirations of the moment (Language Studies, International Studies, choir singing, violin, stop-motion, poutine, origami, travelling, milk-shakes, etc.)
In a linear way, the story of Random Recipe grew out of a friendship between singer and guitarist Frannie and beat-boxer and rapper Fab, who met at a show in 2005. The duo then started jamming and began freestyling on the streets for fun. Following a fateful performance at a monthly open mic event at Quai des Brumes and the warm reception they received from the public, Random Recipe became an official act and launched these girls into this crazy trip! Vincent and Liu-Kong later joined the ranks of the band and gave the duo the power to become a complete band.
Aside from recently winning the Miroir for the Best Canadian Artist prize at the 2011 Festival d'été de Québec, Random Recipe was also nominated for three Félix at this year's ADISQ: Album of the year - Anglophone, Quebec artist of the year - Other languages and Album artwork of the year for Fold It! Mold It!. In the last six months, the group, formed by Frannie Holder (vocals, chiquita guitarra), Fab (rap, beat-box), Vincent Legault (guitar, bass, keys) and Liu-Kong Ha (percussions, keys), also played in France and Belgium as well as at the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. All the while collecting accolades, among others, a Grand Prix de la relève Archambault nomination, the quartet remains humble, only adding more accuracy to their amazing live performances.
The conquest of new horizons has only just begun! Indeed, Random Recipe returned to Europe in October to give a little taste of what to expect with Fold It! Mold It!'s release on the French label Chapter Two Records in 2012.
